Beginner Brews

The world of loose-leaf tea can seem vast - sometimes it feels like we’ve got too much choice! If you’re not sure where to start, fear not. Matt has some fantastic recommendations for beginner brewers, whether you fancy a caffeine-free cup, something familiar or something daring and new!

The Morning Cup

It’s a classic for a reason! English Breakfast tea will be really familiar to a lot of folks - it’s a fantastic everyday option made with black tea leaves, and however you drink it, it's super cosy and comforting. Malty, rich and familiar, it’s got that kick you might want from your morning brew, and is great with or without milk. Loose-leaf teas tend to have a stronger taste than teabags, and there’s a lot more going on, flavour-wise, so our English Breakfast tea, made with Assam and Kenyan black tea, is a classic brew, but it’s certainly not boring!

Feel like exploring?

If you feel like mixing things up, there’s a lot to experiment with. Why not try and explore what you enjoy the most from your go-to brew? If it’s the malty taste in black tea, north Indian options like Assams are fantastic - you get that familiar, comforting malty taste, plus deeper, bolder caramel flavours. If you want more of those bright, floral notes, Sri Lankan leaves like our Lover’s Leap Ceylon is a great choice.

Sleep well

There are a few ways of going caffeine-free outside of regular decaf, and loads of flavours to explore. Green tea is lower in caffeine than black tea, and white tea is even lower still, plus there's a whole world of naturally caffeine-free herbals and florals, jam-packed with flavour. A good decaf substitute for black tea is Rooibos, (pronounced roy-boss, or referred to simply as, redbush). With rooibos you still get that lovely, malty taste, but it won’t keep you up! Some folks like to add milk to rooibos, but it’s great on its own too.

Hope this helps you make the dive into the rich world of loose-leaf tea, but if you’re not sure what to go for, or just fancy a natter or a taste of something, pop in and see us!
