Light roast speciality coffee
Fjødr is Danelaw's lightest, brightest blend — a cup bursting with lemon, berries and stone fruit for anyone ready to discover how vibrant coffee can be.
The story
Fjødr takes its name from the Old Norse word for feather, and it fits. This is Danelaw's lightest roast, designed to let the natural fruit character of the beans shine through. The blend draws on washed and natural coffees from Africa and Latin America, and the result is something that surprises people who think coffee should only taste of chocolate and smoke.
In the cup you get lemon zest up front, then juicy berries and ripe stone fruit, carried along by a lively acidity that keeps everything bright. There is a tropical fruit sweetness in the finish that lingers nicely. As espresso it is sherbet-like and punchy; as filter it opens up into something sweet and endlessly interesting.
Roasted just a few miles from Porter Hill in Holmfirth, Fjødr has picked up Great Taste Awards in 2022, 2023 and 2024. It is a coffee for curious mornings and anyone who fancies seeing what speciality coffee can really do.
How to brew it
01Pour-over or filter
A slow, steady pour brings out the fruit and sweetness.
02Espresso
Expect a bright, sherbet-like shot with citrus punch.
03Aeropress
Inverted method works well for a clean, sweet cup.
Shop tip: Grind a little coarser than you might for darker roasts. Fjødr is forgiving and rewards a gentler extraction.

Good questions
Bright and fruity. You will get lemon zest, juicy berries and stone fruit, with a tropical sweetness in the finish. It is nothing like a classic dark roast. Think summer fruit rather than chocolate.
If you enjoy bright, lively flavours in coffee or wine, you will love it. If you prefer something smooth and mellow, Danelaw's Mjólka or a darker roast might suit you better.
You can, but the fruit notes work best black or with just a splash. The brightness tends to get lost under lots of milk. This one is designed to drink lighter.
Using around 15g per cup for filter or pour-over, you will get roughly 16–17 cups from the bag. For espresso doses of 18g, expect about 13–14 shots.
Keep it in an airtight container at room temperature, away from heat and light. Use within a few weeks of opening for the best flavour.
