Decaf English Breakfast: A Full Morning Cup with Less Caffeine
Share
Decaf English Breakfast is for the person who still wants a proper morning tea, just with most of the caffeine removed. Porter Hill describes a rounded, malty black-tea cup with medium body, a little floral lift and enough briskness to take milk. The point is the familiar breakfast routine and flavour, with a decaffeinated tea base.
What stays in a decaf cup?
The retail listing names decaffeinated black tea as the ingredient. It is still tea leaf, not a fruit or herbal alternative, and some caffeine remains. Porter Hill does not give a measured amount per cup or specify a decaffeination method for this product. If you need to avoid caffeine entirely, choose a genuinely caffeine-free infusion and check its ingredients; do not treat “decaf” as a zero-caffeine guarantee.
Compared with Porter Hill’s regular English Breakfast, this is positioned as a medium-bodied, malty morning-style cup. The regular blend names several growing regions and is naturally caffeinated. Choose by the caffeine preference first, then by how much briskness you want in your mug. There is no need to pretend the two products will taste identical.
Give the tea enough leaf
Start with the pack’s one teaspoon per cup, freshly boiled water and two minutes. Taste it before adding milk. If the cup seems thin, try a slightly fuller spoon next time rather than leaving the same leaf to steep much longer; overbrewing may add a dry edge without the body you wanted. A roomy infuser helps, and removing it promptly keeps the second sip from changing while you drink.
For a milk-first mug, brew a little stronger and add a small splash at a time. If you drink it plain, the lighter floral note described by the shop may be easier to notice. Sugar is optional. Decaf can still be a satisfying partner to toast or porridge without being sold as a sleep aid or a medically suitable choice for everyone.
Choose a sensible size
The retail product page lists 50 g, 100 g and larger pouches. Try the smaller amount if you are comparing decaf styles, then move up when the brewing method is familiar. Check current pack availability before ordering and keep the tea sealed, cool and dry, away from strong-smelling foods.
