Izu Matcha Brew Guide

Classic Usucha (everyday matcha): Sift 1–2g matcha (½–1 tsp) into a bowl. Add 60–80ml water at 75–80°C. Whisk briskly in a “W” motion for 15–25 seconds until frothy.

Stronger Koicha (thick, intense): Sift 3–4g matcha (1½–2 tsp). Add 30–40ml water at 70–75°C. Whisk slowly until glossy and smooth (less foam).

Matcha Latte (hot): Sift 1–2g matcha. Add 30–50ml water at 75–80°C and whisk smooth. Top with 200–250ml steamed milk (dairy or oat). Sweeten if you like.

Iced Matcha / Iced Latte: Whisk 1–2g matcha with 30–50ml cool or room-temp water until smooth. Pour over ice and top with cold water or 200–250ml cold milk.

Pro tips: Always sift to avoid clumps, use cooler water than black tea (boiling water makes matcha bitter), and whisk until the surface looks like fine foam.

Matcha FAQs

Is Izu Matcha ceremonial grade?

Yes – Izu Matcha is made to ceremonial standards using finely ground, shade-grown green tea. Its vibrant colour and smooth taste reflect its quality. When buying matcha be sure that the powder is fine and it is vibrant green. Anything less would be considered culinary grade.

Does matcha have caffeine?

Yes – matcha contains natural caffeine, but thanks to the amino acid L-theanine, it delivers a calm, focused energy without the crash of coffee.

What does Izu Matcha taste like?

Expect a rich, grassy flavour with a smooth, umami finish and a touch of natural sweetness. It’s bold without being bitter if prepared correctly.

How do I prepare matcha?

Whisk 1 tsp of matcha with a splash of hot (not boiling) water to make a paste, then top up with 70–80°C water. Optional: add milk or sweetener.

Can I use this matcha in recipes?

Absolutely – Izu Matcha is perfect for lattes, smoothies, baked goods, and even savoury dishes like dressings or noodle broths.
