The story
When a steel infuser stays at home
Sometimes you want loose leaf but you are not in your own kitchen. A weekend away, a hotel room, a friend's house with nothing but teabags in the cupboard. You could pack an infuser, but a cotton pouch weighs next to nothing and fits in a coat pocket.
Fill it with enough tea for your cup, tie the string, brew as normal, then tip the leaves out and give it a rinse. It dries quickly and goes again. Not as roomy as a basket infuser so the leaves cannot spin quite as freely, but perfectly good for a solid brew when you need one.

How many times can I reuse a cotton teabag?
With rinsing and occasional washing, dozens of times. Tea tannins will stain the cotton over time, but that does not affect how it brews.
Can I use it for herbal tea?
Yes. Chamomile, peppermint, fruit blends, rooibos, anything loose will work.
How do I clean it properly?
After each use, empty the leaves and rinse under hot water. Every few brews, turn it inside out and wash with a drop of washing-up liquid, then air dry.
Is this better than a steel infuser?
Not better, different. A steel infuser gives leaves more room and lasts longer. The cotton bag is lighter, quieter to pack, and ideal for travel.
