What makes it green?
The green in green tea comes from how it’s made — fresh leaves are quickly steamed or pan-fired to halt oxidation. This locks in the colour, nutrients, and brightness. No fermentation, no heavy processing. It’s tea in its most honest form.
Real energy, minus the buzz
Green tea contains caffeine — usually around 20–35mg per cup — but it’s balanced by L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes calm and focus. You’ll feel lifted, not wired. It’s what monks drank to stay centred through long meditations. Now it powers workdays and walks in the woods.
What does it taste like?
That depends on the tea. You might find notes of:
- Blanched greens
- Roasted chestnuts
- Sea air
- Spring flowers
Some are savoury, others sweet. There’s no “green tea taste” — it’s a whole world.
Brewing is an act of respect
Boiling water and green tea don’t mix.
To get the best out of your leaves:
- Heat water to around 75–80°C
- Use a teaspoon per cup
- Steep for 2–3 minutes
- No milk needed (though we won’t judge)
This gives you a soft, smooth cup without bitterness.
Why people reach for it
People drink green tea to:
- Focus
- Unwind
- Support digestion
- Or simply because it tastes damn good
It’s not about chasing trends — it’s about choosing better.
Why buy from us?
Because we care about where our tea comes from, how it’s grown, and how it tastes in your cup. Porter Hill green teas are:
- Always full leaf (no crushed leaves or fannings)
- Responsibly sourced
- Taste-tested by by people with a passion for the finest teas
This isn’t supermarket tea. This is tea with integrity.
Still unsure?
Start with Japanese Sencha. Or maybe a Jasmine Green. You’ll know when you find your leaf.
