Monkey Eye Jade Buds — Limited Edition Chinese Green Tea

Monkey Eye Jade Buds is an exceptional early-spring green tea from Fujian Province, China, made entirely from young jade-coloured buds. The leaves are small-batch crafted and hand sorted, producing a beautifully clean cup with the fresh, grassy character you'd hope for from a really good Chinese green tea.

It brews a lovely pale yellow-green. The first sip is fresh and lively, followed by a surprisingly full, smooth mouthfeel and a clean finish that makes another cup seem a very sensible idea.

The rather brilliant name comes from the legend of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King of Chinese mythology. His eyes were said to possess the ability to see the truth in any situation. We're making no such promises for the tea, but it's certainly worth sitting down and thinking about things over a pot.

Brewing Guide

Use around one heaped teaspoon per cup and brew for 2–3 minutes to begin with.

As with most good green teas, we'd avoid absolutely boiling water. Let the kettle cool for a few minutes after boiling and aim for around 80°C. It'll give you a smoother cup and is much kinder to those lovely young leaves.

The leaves are well worth infusing again, too.
