Thick Swiss-Style Hot Chocolate
A thick, velvety Swiss-style hot chocolate made with unalkalised cocoa. Vegans welcome, milk alternatives encouraged, second helpings inevitable.
The story
Most hot chocolate powders use Dutch-processed cocoa, which has been treated with alkaline to mellow the flavour and darken the colour. Harth takes a different path. Their Original uses natural, unalkalised cocoa powder, which keeps more of the bright, fruity notes that get stripped out in processing. The result is a richer, more complex chocolate flavour.
Mix it with hot milk and you get something genuinely thick. Not thin and watery, not gritty, just smooth and properly satisfying. The kind of hot chocolate that coats the back of a spoon and leaves a little moustache. Works beautifully with oat milk, full-fat dairy, or whatever you have in the fridge.
Harth is a small ethical chocolate maker based in Somerset. They pack their hot chocolate in plastic-free, recyclable pouches. No fuss, no waste, just good chocolate made properly.
How to brew it
01Classic hot
Stir continuously on low heat until smooth and steaming
02Extra thick
Less milk, more cocoa, for pudding-like thickness
03Iced chocolate
Dissolve in a splash of hot milk, top with cold milk and ice
Shop tip: Warm your mug first with hot water while you heat the milk. Keeps everything properly hot to the last sip.
Made for moments like
When you have settled in for the evening and need something warming that feels like a treat without leaving the house.
Coming through the door with red cheeks and cold fingers. This sorts you out faster than the radiator will.
Saturday or Sunday, still in pyjamas, nowhere to be. A mug of this and the weekend officially starts.

Good questions

About fifteen mugs from the 400g bag, using two to three teaspoons per serving. Generous pourers might get a few less.
Absolutely. Oat milk makes it particularly creamy. Soy, almond and coconut all work well too. The cocoa is the star, so it adapts.
It may contain traces of milk, nuts, mustard, peanuts, cereals containing gluten and soya. Worth noting if you have sensitivities.
Keep the bag sealed in a cool, dry place below 24°C, away from direct sunlight. It will stay fresh for at least twelve months from manufacture.
