Milima GFBOP black tea, loose leaf: bright, golden and full

The story

From the cool heights of Kericho

Milima comes from the highland plantations around Kericho in Kenya, grown at around 6,000 feet above sea level. At that altitude the cooler temperatures slow the bush growth, concentrating flavour in the leaf. The name itself means mountain in Swahili, which tells you something about the terrain.

The leaves are rolled three times to develop their twisted appearance and preserve that distinctive floral edge, then oxidised and sorted into grades. GFBOP sits at the top, packed with golden tips that give the cup its brightness and body.

What lands in your mug is a deep coppery-orange brew with a naturally fruity lift and a brisk, clean structure. There is malt there, but it never gets muddy. Bold enough to stand up to milk if you want it, refined enough to drink black if you do not.

How to brew it

How to brew your Milima

01Hot

Amount
1 teaspoon (2.5g)
Water
100°C
Time
2 minutes

Gives a bright, lively cup. Add a minute for more body.

02With milk

Amount
1 heaped teaspoon
Water
100°C
Time
3 minutes

A slightly longer steep stands up nicely to a splash of milk.

03Second steep

Amount
Same leaves
Water
100°C
Time
3–4 minutes

The second cup is gentler, with softer malt and less briskness.

Shop tip: Use freshly boiled water and do not let it sit. The oxygen in just-boiled water helps the leaf open properly.

Good questions

Things people ask us in the shop

Does Milima contain caffeine?

Yes. It is a high-caffeine black tea, so it works well as a morning cup or an afternoon pick-me-up.

Can I add milk?

Absolutely. A splash of milk softens the briskness without drowning the flavour. Try it both ways and see which you prefer.

How many cups will I get from a pouch?

The 50g pouch makes around 20 cups, the 100g around 40, and the 250g around 100, based on roughly 2.5g per cup.

How should I store it?

Keep it sealed in the pouch, somewhere cool and dry, away from sunlight and strong-smelling foods.

How does it compare to Assam?

Milima is brighter and cleaner than most Assams, with more fruity lift and less of that heavy malt. Think crispness rather than earthiness.

Full product details

Milima GFBOP is a high-elevation Kenyan loose leaf black tea with serious brightness and body — rich, clean and wonderfully drinkable.

Grown at Kaproret’s highland plantation near the Mau Reserve, these golden-tipped leaves brew a deep, full-flavoured cup with a naturally fruity lift, brisk structure and a long, satisfying finish that never feels muddy.

It’s the kind of black tea that tastes “alive”: bold enough for a proper morning brew, refined enough to enjoy black, and brilliant when you want strength without harshness.
