Whole leaf, full flavour

Loose leaf tea that actually tastes like something

Loose leaf tea is simply tea the way it should be. Whole leaves, or large pieces of them, with enough room to unfurl in hot water and release everything they have to offer. The difference in the cup is immediate: more aroma, more depth, more character. Teabags are convenient, but they tend to hold dust and fannings that brew flat and bitter. Loose leaf gives you the full picture.

Our range covers proper black teas like English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast and Bukhial Assam TGFOP, Japanese greens including Sencha and Gyokuro, floral oolongs such as Quanzhou Milk Oolong, and a generous spread of caffeine-free herbals from Peppermint Tea to Organic Chamomile Tea. Whether you drink tea all day or just want one really good cup in the evening, there is something here.

Loose leaf suits anyone who wants better flavour without fuss. A simple infuser and two minutes of steeping is all it takes. We hand-pack every order in Yorkshire. Free UK delivery on orders over £35.

How to choose

01

Start with caffeine

Need a morning lift? Black teas like English Breakfast or Weaver's Blend have the most caffeine. For evenings, choose a herbal like Sweet Dreams or Organic Chamomile Tea, both naturally caffeine-free.

02

Consider milk or not

Malty black teas such as Irish Breakfast and Bukhial Assam take milk beautifully. Greens, oolongs and most herbals are best without. Cream Earl Grey sits in between, delicious either way.

03

Match strength to taste

Prefer bold and robust? Try Emperor Butterfly Lapsang Souchong or Jasmine Masala Chai. After something lighter? Sencha, Jasmine Green or Honeyed Peach will suit you better.

What is loose leaf tea?

Loose leaf tea is tea sold as whole or large-cut leaves rather than in teabags. The leaves have space to expand when brewed, which releases more flavour and aroma. It is how tea was drunk for centuries before bags became common.

Is loose leaf tea better than teabags?

Generally, yes. Teabags often contain smaller, broken leaves that can taste dusty or one-dimensional. Loose leaf keeps more of the leaf intact, giving a fuller, more nuanced cup. It also lets you control the strength more precisely.

How do I make loose leaf tea without an infuser?

You can brew directly in a mug or pot and strain through a fine-mesh sieve when pouring. Some people simply let the leaves settle at the bottom and drink carefully. An infuser makes life easier, but it is not essential.

How much loose leaf tea per cup?

A good rule is one teaspoon of leaf per 200ml of water. Adjust to taste after your first brew. Lighter teas like green or white may need a little more; strong black teas a little less.

Can I reuse loose leaf tea?

Many teas, especially oolongs and quality greens, can be steeped two or three times. Each infusion will taste slightly different. Black teas and herbals tend to give their best on the first steep.

How should I store loose leaf tea?

Keep it in an airtight container away from light, heat and strong odours. A cool cupboard is fine.
